You don`t have to worry if you didn`t smile on a picture, the new BB10 photo app has a time shift option to fix that and you don`t have to return to your pictures gallery to see it again just swipe it up to enlarge the pic again. Pretty cool. Crackberry made a video to demo the app:

Research In Motion Ltd. plans to release its new BlackBerry 10 smartphone lineup on six continents in the first quarter, seeking to capitalize on the company’s lingering strength in overseas markets.

RIM has already met with 30 carriers to show them the BB10 operating system and the response has been very positive, Chief Marketing Officer Frank Boulben said in an interview from the BlackBerry 10 Jam conference in San Jose, California.

“We’ve been hearing things like, ‘unique, revolutionary, really slick,’” said Boulben, who had just returned from a trip that included stops in Singapore, Mumbai and Johannesburg -- some of the markets where the BlackBerry remains popular.

Applications

RIM has already given out 6,000 BB10 prototypes to developers to help them build apps, and it’s making more, he said. There are also about 25,000 apps available for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, which runs on software similar to BB10. Most of those should work on the new phones, RIM has said.

BB10 will work with apps from the top social-networking companies, including Facebook Inc. (FB), Twitter Inc., LinkedIn Corp. (LNKD) and Foursquare Labs Inc., Alec Saunders, vice president of developer relations, told an audience in a presentation to developers in San Jose.

Heins demonstrated some of BB10’s new features, including BlackBerry Balance, which lets users flip between work and personal screen displays, and a retro-orange alarm clock that you set by rotating your finger around the dial.

RIM is planning to have a splashy event early next year to introduce the BB10 phones, which will include touch-screen versions and more traditional qwerty keyboard models. Before that, RIM will have a “progressive reveal” of BB10’s strengths with corporate information-technology chiefs, technology experts and media, Boulben said.

Softpedia via BlackBerry Italia are reporting some pictures of the multitouch slab smartphones BB10 L-Series. Early rumors of 6 to 10 BB10 devices multitouch slabs and with qwerty keyboard were reported:

Microsoft said the patent being licensed by RIM greatly expands the size of files that flash memory devices can handle and increases the speed at which those files can be accessed. The technology also provides the ability to seamlessly transfer data between a variety of different devices.

"This is potentially money out of RIM's coffers for the right to use the ex-FAT patent in its technology. But what it does for investors and others is provide a glimpse into what the BlackBerry 10 devices can do," said Kevin Restivo, a mobile device analyst at global research firm IDC.

RIM hopes the BlackBerry 10 will help it regain market share that has been ceded to snazzier devices such as Apple's iPhone and others that run on Google Inc's Android operating system.

Speculation has been around from sometime now about what and how many BB10 devices will RIM launch in early 2013:

RIM shares closed 21 Canadian cents higher at C$7.24 on Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange. On Nasdaq, they closed 2.3 percent higher at $7.42.

RIM`s CEO Thorsten Heins  said to the WSJ the company  will start delivering nearly complete versions of its new smartphones to USA  carriers next week.

He also indicates RIM is soon set to take two beta devices to carriers.

 "The physical shape and feel of the new phones is finished and the software nearly complete" and "We're near the finishing line."

The carriers noted in the article are Verizon Wireless and AT&T with comments coming from Mark Siegel, AT&T spokesman: "We value our relationship with RIM and look forward to working with them on existing and new products."

Crackberry site is pointing out RIM will roll out six phones eventually, three that are all-touch screen and three with physical keyboards and will have replaceable batteries and that RIM is about to or already has started inviting internal employees to take part in beta testing of the devices as well. RIM`s CEO Thorsten Heins is now carrying a BlackBerry 10 device.

Rumours: Samsung to license BB10 or buying RIM. RIM shares jumped.

Shares of struggling BlackBerry maker Research in Motion Ltd. jumped Wednesday after Jefferies analyst Peter Misek said Samsung could be interested in licensing RIM's new BlackBerry 10 software or even buying the company.

Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest mobile phone maker, currently relies on Android software made by Google Inc. for its smartphones. But the company may be concerned that Google will make better versions of Android for its own smartphones or stop licensing its Android software to other handset makers. The online search giant bought phone maker Motorola this year.

So Misek believes Samsung is examining possible backup software options. He thinks the Korean company recognizes the increasing importance of software and the danger in not owning the software on its phones.

Meanwhile, RIM is reviewing options as it tries to turn around its business. The Canadian company's BlackBerry has lost market share to Apple Inc.'s iPhone and phones that run Android, including Samsung's devices.

RIM has hired J.P. Morgan and RBC Capital Markets to help it evaluate strategies, including possibilities of partnering with other companies and licensing software.

Samsung said in January it wasn't interested in buying RIM. RIM's software has fallen behind flashier phones like the iPhone and phones running Android. However, RIM says its much-delayed new BlackBerry 10 software will be thoroughly redesigned for the new multimedia, Internet browsing and apps experience that customers are now demanding.

Misek believes Samsung could pursue a licensing deal with the BlackBerry maker, but said Samsung will wait to see how the BlackBerry 10 software is received before negotiating a licensing agreement or possibly buying RIM. RIM says BlackBerry 10 will be released in early 2013.

Samsung didn't immediately return a message seeking comment on Wednesday. A RIM spokesman said their policy is to decline comment on rumors and speculation.

RIM shares gained 44 cents, or 6 percent, to $7.75 in early afternoon trading on the Nasdaq. Shares have lost half their value this year, and the company's market capitalization has shrunk to about $4 billion from more than $89 billion in 2008.
