HP Earns Excellence in Service Operations Certification for Fifth Consecutive Year.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

HP Earns Excellence in Service Operations Certification for Fifth Consecutive Year.

For the fifth consecutive year, HP has earned the Excellence in Service Operations certification from the Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA) for delivering superior technical support and services in North America.

The certification specifically recognizes HP’s customer support for its commercial PCs and peripheral services. For each of the past five years, HP Printing and Personal Systems (HP PPS, formerly HP Personal Systems Group)—Commercial North America has been the only manufacturer of laptops, desktops and workstations to be TSIA Excellence in Service Operations certified.

“HP’s North American Commercial PPS team has maintained its Excellence in Service Operations certification for five years, thereby successfully keeping pace with the technology industry’s high standards and expectations for support,” said Thomas W. Pridham, senior vice president and general manager, Organizational Development Services, TSIA. “The Excellence in Service Operations certification is a key indicator that an organization is committed and positioned to deliver the highest-quality service to its customers.”

This coveted third-party industry recognition includes a comprehensive evaluation of customer-centric service operations through all touch points, including phone, field service and web. For HP to successfully attain certification, auditors from TSIA compared HP support operations against nearly 245 industry best practices, including executive commitment, talent management, support tools and technology, and operation metrics—plus such core components as strategy, marketing, assisted and unassisted support, and field service.

“This year’s TSIA certification is a milestone for HP, marking five years of hard work toward customer service excellence,” said Jodi Schilling, vice president, Customer Support and Services, HP. “The recognition that we can always do better for our customers drives us to innovate and excel in the customer service business. We are committed to delivering an exceptional support experience to every customer, every day.”

As part of the certification process, TSIA auditors also reviewed HP management policies and procedures. This included on-site and remote audit processes conducted by a panel of service executives, each with more than 20 years of experience in the industry. Service and support are chief among both commercial and consumer needs during the technology-purchase process. TSIA’s certification underscores HP’s ongoing commitment to delivering the best customer experience possible.

HP return to smartphones is not planned for 2013.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

HP return to smartphones is not planned for 2013.

Whitman sees a feeble economy and expects to weaken even more during the next year.

It could be 2015 before Hewlett-Packard Co.'s revenue growth begins to accelerate again, according to Whitman. By 2016, she envisions HP's revenue increasing as the same pace as the U.S. economy's overall growth, with earnings rising at a faster clip.

"It is going to take longer to right this ship than any of us would like," Whitman said.

In her shake-up of HP, Whitman has already reshuffled management and started to eliminate 29,000 jobs through employee buyouts, attrition and layoffs. She's trying to trim the company's annual expenses by more than $3 billion.

HP also is reducing the number of different printers that it makes. It is also rolling out a new line of personal computers and tablets running on Windows 8, an overhaul of Microsoft Corp.'s operating system that's designed to appeal to consumers and companies that want more mobile devices with touch-control display screens.

Whitman also is lacing big bets on "cloud computing" - a term that refers to the increasingly popular trend of storing software applications in remote data centers that are accessed over the Internet instead of installing programs on individual machines.

HP also is angling for a bigger piece of the "Big Data" market, a field devoted to helping companies and government agencies navigate through the torrent of information cascading through Internet-connected devices.

Finally, Whitman wants HP to design another smartphone, something it did two years ago after buying Palm Inc. only to scrap the device after a few months on the market. HP's return to the smartphone business isn't planned for next year, though, but will in some time in the future as she said before to fox business news. (video below)

"There are no silver bullets to solve our challenges," Whitman said Wednesday. "We will solve our challenges through consistency of leadership, focus, good blocking and tackling and, most importantly, great products and services delivered in the way that customers want to buy them."

Whitman delivered the disappointing forecast Wednesday at a meeting that the ailing Silicon Valley pioneer held for analysts and investors. The gathering gave Whitman the opportunity to persuade Wall Street that she has come up with a compelling strategy for turning around HP one year after being named CEO.

Investors evidently didn't like what they heard. HP's stock plunged 13 percent after Whitman's presentation, shoving the company's shares to their lowest level in nearly a decade.

webOS Open 1.0 is Here and running on a HP Touchsmart PC. Video.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

webOS  Open 1.0 is Here and running on a HP TouchSmart PC. Video.

webOS architect Steve Winston demos open webOS 1.0 running on a HP TouchSmart PC.

Finally the webOS Open roadmap is accomplished with the release of the  1.0 Edition today.

Some enhancements will follow: Qt5 / WebKit2, Open sourced media and audio components, BlueZ Bluetooth stack,ConnMan network management and  Optimized SysMgr rendering architecture.

What is saying the webOS Open project team, right here below:

Open webOS 1.0 Edition.

Today is a great day for Open webOS. We have completed our initial roadmap and are releasing Open webOS 1.0 on schedule, as promised.

Our combined efforts with the community and hard work have paid off, and we are now ready to move on to the next phase together. With this release we have affirmed our commitment to meet our goals and create a vibrant open source community.

What 1.0 contains
We now have an OpenEmbedded build that allows a full webOS experience running inside an OE emulator. We have added core applications — email & browser — while continuing to support the desktop build environment.

The 1.0 release also brings support for Enyo2. You can now take apps built on one of the best cross-platform JavaScript frameworks and easily run these same apps on Open webOS or other platforms.
In the past 9 months, we have delivered over 75 Open webOS components. This totals over 450,000 lines of code. (Can I get a hell yeah!). The source code for Open webOS can be found in Open webOS repositories on GitHub.

What 1.0 means
Combining today’s components with those from the previous releases, Open webOS can now be ported to new devices.

We expect to have more Open webOS port announcements in the future and will work with the community to deliver updates here.

The future
We will continue to innovate and develop for Open webOS over the coming months, including the following planned enhancements:

·         Qt5 / WebKit2
·         Open sourced media and audio components
·         BlueZ Bluetooth stack
·         ConnMan network management
·         Optimized SysMgr rendering architecture

Come join in the chatter on our mailing list and forums; your collaboration is encouraged.

Community activity
Last month’s Beta release delivered collaboration tools for community members. Today’s 1.0 release includes new forums, and our project infrastructure now includes an integrated login across the website, forums, and the JIRA bug tracker.

The 1.0 launch includes contributions by expert community members made after the beta release.  These contain bug fixes, resolution of dependencies, and substantive commentary which guided our decisions on code structure and other issues.  Across the repos, the bug tracker and the mailing lists community members are helping each other.

The webOS-Ports team also continues to enhance the user experience on LunaCE with their latest release which includes shortcuts, bug fixes and several user-facing feature additions such as gesture-based app switching and improved card stack management.

Thank you
Today is a day to celebrate our engineers. Martin Risau, our SVP, said that he was, “proud that we did what we said we would do in January. This achievement gives us the credibility to execute our future plans.”

Together, with the open source community, we have achieved great results over the last few months. Both internal and external engineers have put a lot of time and effort into getting us to where we are today, and they deserve a lot of credit.

Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of The Linux Foundation, echoed the importance of reaching this benchmark:
“By using the build framework for embedded Linux, the Yocto Project with OpenEmbedded-Core, Open webOS is poised to deliver an open source build environment that developers will thrive from. Open webOS continues to hit its milestones, and we expect the community around the project to continue to grow. All the right tools are in place.”

As we strive to make Open webOS an open platform of choice, we are excited to continue working with a great community whose members continue to amaze us with their innovation and creativity.

That’s all for now folks. See you on the Interweb and at community events.

Latest news about webOS Open.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Latest news about webOS Open.

Today on a full interview made by PC World about Microsoft, HP and  post PC age, Todd Bradley answered questions about them and the final one was about webOS status and if there are some licensing deals at this time. How Todd answered to that question, just right here below:

PCW: Do you have a webOS status update? Any licensing deals?
Bradley: HP is executing its plan to deliver an open webOS under a new organization called Gram.  HP will make webOS source code available under the Apache License, Version 2.0, and we expect the full source code for open webOS to be available by September.
Of course if there are some licensing deals already, HP will let them know at right time.

HP: Our Windows 8 tablet will have exclusive technology. Financing partners for first time.

HP: Our Windows 8 tablet will have exclusive technology. Financing partners for first time.
WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

The company recently admitted to CRN that the device will feature "unique" intellectual property. John Solomon, senior vice president of Americas sales for HP's printing and personal systems division, said that additional details will be revealed "pretty soon."

"Other OEMs will be doing tablets, but the HP tablet is going to be different: It's going to have a specific area of focus, or multiple areas of focus, which will require a high degree of channel engagement to take full advantage of the opportunity," Solomon told CRN.
The device will be tailor-made for the tablet channel, targeting vertical markets. Like all other tablet makers, HP will be going after Apple's iPad, only this time the company will be backed by Microsoft's new touchy-blocky Windows 8 platform.
Solomon told CRN that HP is giving partners 60-day financing for tablets and other products under a recently launched program. This program also includes the participation of Wells Fargo, GE Capital, IBM and De Lage Landen.
"Essentially, we're helping pay the interest cost for partners and making sure cash flow is not an inhibitor for them growing," Solomon said. "This is something we haven't done in the past, and we think of it as proof of what we're doing to re-ignite the channel."
Solomon also backed Microsoft's need to produce the Surface tablets, saying that the move isn’t a competitive threat. "I believe Microsoft was basically making a leadership statement and showing what's possible in the tablet space," Solomon added. "Our relationship has not changed at all due to Microsoft's announcement. In fact, I applaud it -- I think it's great that they are getting out in front and showing what's possible."
He also said the Surface keyboard will be great for occasional use, but professionals will want something better that's capable of everyday use.

Palm is now GRAM a new brand and company with HP webOS, Enyo and Cloud strengths.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Palm is now GRAM a new brand and company with HP webOS, Enyo and Cloud strengths.

Palm is now transforming in a new brand and company GRAM with the core strengths of webOS, Enyo and Cloud offerings.

“GRAM is a new company. We are in stealth mode on our product offering.”

We are no longer a consumer hardware brand, we are a different company with focus on software, User Experience, Cloud, engineering and partnering. This change in identity will take some getting used to and that’s normal, says  HP's webOS Global Business Unit  Chief of Staff Martin Risau.

This news come ahead of the launch of HP webOS as an OpenSource OS next month. The sad  side , no more webOS hardware, maybe.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for all of your enthusiasm at yesterday’s new brand announcement: GRAM.  We hope you will fall in love with the brand just as lots of us have already.
Please note that our Mission, Values and Plan of Action are the same. We are continuing to march forward on our timelines as usual—nothing new there.
We have much work to do, and, again, I solicit your help.
Yes, this is a new brand—it is just the beginning, and there is so much more to do. And yet unveiling the new brand is also a Call to Action:
Try it on. We don’t expect you to love it overnight. We are no longer a consumer hardware brand, we are a different company with focus on software, User Experience, Cloud, engineering and partnering. This change in identity will take some getting used to and that’s normal.
Stealth mode. We are an incubation company, and we are trusting you to keep this company name and product under the radar to give it time to take root and grow. You can wear the logo, help build the momentum of the new identity, talk to your families and friends about it. If someone from the outside asks, you can say, “GRAM is a new company. We are in stealth mode on our product offering.”
Tap your network. Help us hire the best and the brightest, refer your friends and help us in our shared purpose as we continue our rise to the top. You can use the name to help us to recruit.
Be the culture. Spread our Values:  People Matter. Integrity and Trust. Deliberate Innovation. Act small, deliver big.
For those of you who could not attend yesterday’s unveiling – we really missed you.  Please be on the lookout for the gift bags with our new cool branded items, which we be mailing out to you this and next week.  All of you should get one, if not – let me know.
Best
Martin

Has the HP unknown new tablet a Samsung made hardware.?

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Has  the HP unknown new tablet  a Samsung made hardware.?

On July 28 we  posted an article about a recent HP commercial called Make it Matter, where an unknown not released tablet shows up along the video. Comparing the screen shots made of it with the Samsung promotional video of the upcoming Android tablet Note 10.1 (video below) probably to be announced in August 30th at the IFA 2012 to take place in Berlin, as rumours have said.

The frame shape of the device is SIMILAR  to the one on the HP commercial Make it matter. Both tablets have a metal body with a big black plastic antenna window along one side.

Check out both pictures below:

The differences between both tablets, HP`s might come with a Windows 8 software and a Intel`s Ivy bridge 3rd Gen chip and the Samsung`s with Android Jelly Bean and a own manufactured  quad core chip.

HP OEM hardware suppliers are generally from Taiwan, but this time it looks like HP picked up Samsung.
